Our Story
How It All Began
Crystal River and Florida's waterways have been damaged by human and environmental factors, making the waters uninhabitable for sea life and undesirable for recreation. In 2012 dedicated residents and business professionals came together with a single goal – to rehabilitate Florida’s waterways into thriving ecosystems and thus Save Crystal River was formed. Work began in Kings Bay, where Lyngbya “algae” was choking underwater vegetation and leaving cloudy, slimy water where it once was turquoise and clear. We have become the model for the rest of the state and hope that you will help us to keep Crystal River and other waterways beautiful for generations to come.
At Save Crystal River, our all-volunteer Board of Directors believes that collaboration is key to achieving our goals. We are honored by the dedicated volunteers, donors, community members, and partners who have supported the successful restoration and protection of Crystal River.
We are proud to partner with a number of organizations that share our commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. Together, we are working towards a brighter, more sustainable future for our planet.
